The core qualities of each Yoga Asana: One of the ways the yoga poses integrate the 5 Koshas ( The physical sheath, the energetic sheath, the psycho-emotional sheath, the wisdom and the bliss sheath) is through awakwning specific core qualities. These qualities are asana’s deeper meaning, allowing us to experience the essence of each posture. These core qualities are called bhava in Sanskrit.

What is Hatha Yoga?

HA
Refers to the sun. In the context of yoga, it is related to the practices that activate the sympathetic nervous system, which accelerates metabolism, mobilizing energy to provide for our needs. It creates a state of alertness and enhances concentration.
This solar energy is related to Rajas
THA
Refers to the moon. It is related to the practices that activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows metabolism, conserving energy for future needs. It creates a state of restoration, digestion and relaxation.
This lunar energy is related to Tamas
HATHA
Refers to the balance of sun and moon, activity and rest, cultivated by the practice of Hatha yoga, which includes the yoga postures. This balance neutralizes the extremes of Rajas and Tamas, allowing us to enter into the state of Sattva

This state of balance serves as doorway to our true being, which is beyond the gunas.

How Hatha yoga is different from other kind of yoga?

atha yoga is slow, mindful practice that balances body and breath. Postures are usually held longer, with attention to alignment, breathing and inner awareness. It’s practically a therapeutic practice . In my practice there are more twists involved for the balancing of the nervous system.

What do I need for Hatha yoga?

Comfortable clothing, Yoga mat and water. You also can use Yoga blocks for support, balance and alignment. Some people use blankets for padding under knees and seated restorative moments.

Is Hatha yoga good for me?

Hatha yoga is specially good for you if you prefer a slower pace with time to understand each pose. Want to improve flexibility, balance, and posture safety, and managing stress, tension or anxiety. Since the poses are held longer, its excellent for joint health and body awareness, and calms the nervous system.
